Vivo Android 13 (Funtouch OS 13) Release Date
- Vivo announced Funtouch OS 13, based on Android 13, on October 24. The company also shared a beta rollout schedule for the global Vivo units. As of now, the Android 13 beta is available for Vivo X80 Pro owners only.
Vivo tends to be a little slower than its competitors when it comes to providing the new Android update. Usually, Vivo’s Android-based Funtouch OS starts receiving beta updates only after Google releases the stable update. When we look at last year, Vivo released the Android 12 beta after the release of the stable build.
The stable update of Funtouch OS 13 may be released by Q1 2023. We may start seeing Vivo phones launching with Funtouch OS 13 in April or May 2023.
Vivo’s track record (when it comes to updates) is not anything good. Vivo is still providing only one year of major Android updates for its budget and mid-range devices. And till last year, their flagship series received only two years of major Android updates. Vivo’s list of devices that will receive the Android 13 update is small.
Vivo has finally made it clear that the Vivo X series will receive three years of major Android updates launched in July 2021 or later. Vivo X series devices launched in 2020 or earlier will receive only two major Android updates.
Best Features of Funtouch OS 13
1. New Color Theming Engine
FunTouchOS 13 brings a lot more colour-theming options in the settings. The update actually lets you choose between eight colour palettes from your wallpaper and a bunch of preset colours with some dual colours too. The colour theme now applies much better across the whole system UI.
2. Hide Photos
If you have wanted to hide photos in your gallery, FunTouchOS 13 will let you do that. You can now hide photos and videos in your gallery and lock them under a password. This feature can come in handy when you want to hide your private photos and prevent them from accidentally coming into someone’s sight.
3. App Languages
Another new feature that comes with FunTouchOS 13 is the ability to change languages per app. As you can tell, this feature lets you have a specific language for specific apps while the rest of the system is in a different language. For example, you can have YouTube in Spanish while the rest of the system is in English.
This feature can come in handy for bi-linguals and multi-linguals who prefer some apps in their native language. This feature was first introduced in Android 13 on Pixel devices.
4. Weather App
FunTouchOS 13 also brings a minor change to the default weather app. The weather app will now show your city’s AQI (Air Quality Index). This is a helpful feature, but again it does not count as a significant change.
5. Phone Cooling
The iManager in FunTouchOS 13 adds a new feature called phone cooling. This tool lets you regulate your phone’s temperature and cool it down when it is heating or overheating. You can do all of this with just one tap.
6. New Vibration Feature
FunTouchOS 13 has changed the “Sound” setting to “Sound and Vibration.” Along with this, it adds a feature where the phone will vibrate if the other party answers or hangs up a phone call. This feature can be pretty handy but is not a significant change.
7. Colour Correction and Inversion
FunTouchOS 13 also adds colour correction and colour inversion features in the accessibility settings. These features are not something unique, but it’s good to see them coming to FunTouchOS.
8. App Notifications Prompt
With FunTouchOS 13, you will get a prompt asking you to choose to allow or deny notifications permission each time you install a new app. Previously, you had to go to the app settings to disable notifications. This is the same notification permission prompt from Android 13 on Pixel devices.
That’s pretty much what’s new in FunTouchOS 13. It’s a minor update over the FunTouchOS 12. Unlike other Android skins like One UI 5, ColorOS 13, and OxygenOS 13, FunTouchOS does not bring any exciting features to the table.
