WWDC 2023 Date Confirmed: iOS 17, AR/VR Headset and More Expected
Just when the first quarter of 2023 has ended, Apple has announced that one of its major events, the Worldwide Developers Conference, will start on the 5th of June and will be held till the 9th of that month. It is an event Apple holds every year, primarily for two purposes. Firstly, this event is where they showcase the latest developments in iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, and tvOS. Secondly, it is also a very insightful event for developers from all across the world. This event is usually held for five days (Monday to Friday) in a week in June.
The 34th Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC 2023, will be hosted by Apple online. However, in addition to the online event, there will also be a special offline event for students and developers held at Apple Park, California, on the opening day, the 5th of June. Attendees of this event will get to view the keynote and State of the Union presentations. They will also get access to sessions, one-on-one labs, and a chance to interact with engineers and developers at Apple.
What to expect in WWDC 2023?
The vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations at Apple, Susan Prescott, recently said that the event this year (WWDC 2023) would be Apple’s biggest and most exciting one thus far.
Apple is expected to announce new major software upgrades for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple watches, and the Apple TV. These would be iOS 17 for iPhones, iPadOS 17 for iPads, macOS 14 for Apple computers, watchOS 10 for Apple watches, and tvOS 17 for Apple TV.
Interestingly enough, Apple’s virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) headset (Apple AR/VR Headset) may also be announced, something that has been in the talks for quite some time now. This headset may very well be in the limelight of this much-awaited event. While talking about new hardware announcements, it is worthwhile to note that we may also see a new and improved version of the Mac Pro that will be based on Apple Silicon, alongside a new 15-inch MacBook Air, according to rumours.
Who can attend the offline event?
The offline event held at Apple Park in California is not accessible to the general public as the space is limited. Only the alumni of Apple Entrepreneur Camp, Swift Student Challenge winners, and those currently members of the Apple Developer Program or the Apple Developer Enterprise Program can request to attend it. The invitations are sent out to people selected via a random process.
Note that all the winners of the Swift Student Challenge held between 2020 and 2023 can apply for the invitation. This challenge is to provide opportunities to young minds that are interested in developing new software. The submissions for this year’s Swift Student Challenge are now open and remain open till the 19th of April. You can learn more about the challenge here.
Applicants for the invitation will be notified of their status by the 5th of April.
